MACHINE LEARNING BASED BIO-MECHATRONIC HAND FOR THE AMPUTEES

Upper-limb amputation may occur due to variety of reasons, the most common causes include acute trauma and paralyzing diseases.Such a loss of hand can be devastating and its functional limitations are catastrophic. The product design  “Machine learning based Bio-Mechatronic hands for the Amputees” is proposed with a strong objective to provide a sense of rehabilitation to the upper-limb amputated victims. The solution represents the design of Bio-mechatronic hand which intends to replicate complex intrinsic functions of the innate hand, by employing machine learning algorithm. BeagleBone Black AM335x forms the computing unit of the design and is equipped with  Intra-neural electrodes for the purpose of integrating Central Nervous System (CNS) and the upper-limb prosthesis i.e., the EMG signals(contains muscle potential) captured using electrodes is processed and interpreted to stimulate the bio-mechatronic hand to do appropriate functions as initiated by the Human-brain. The desired movements/functions of the proposed hand replacement is achieved using servo motors.Consequently, the proposed product design proves to be more beneficial to the amputees with its ability of restoring the nature of an innate-hand
