Microwave Communication Lab
Description of the Microwave Communication Lab
The microwave and
communications lab presently serves to give the ECE students a laboratory
experience in basic electronic communications systems, microwave communication
and optical communication. This lab is utilized for conducting the following
courses.
·16EC259 Analog and Digital Communication Lab
·16EC261 Microwave and Optical Communication Lab
The analog and digital communication lab is well
equipped with oscilloscopes, signal generators, dual regulated power supplies,
highly advanced arbitrary function generator, digital storage oscilloscopes,
spectrum analyzers, Amplitude modulation and demodulation trainer kit,
Frequency modulation and demodulation trainer kit, Digital Communication
trainer kits such as ASK,PSK, FSK, QPSK, Delta modulation. The training and
experience that ECE students gain in this laboratory enhance their
understanding of analog and digital communication systems.
The Microwave and
Optical Communication Lab provides the student with an experience on analyzing
the characteristics of microwave components and the various fiber optical
communication techniques. The experiments conducted include S-parameter
measurements, radiation and terminal properties of horn, slot, array,
reflector, strip and patch and basic microwave measurements, such as gain in
dB, impedance, power, frequency, VSWR, etc., using waveguide technology. The
laboratory is adequately equipped with microwave benches at J-band and X-band,
which includes Klystron tubes, Gunn diodes, Klystron power supplies,
modulators, directional couplers, horn, slot, array, reflector, strip and patch
antennas, various power energy ,VSWR meters and fiber optic trainer kits to
enable the study of components of an optical communication system. The students
perform optical communication experiments to study the characteristics of
optical sources (LED & LD), measurement of numerical aperture, eye pattern,
attenuation in optical link and data communication using optical link.
The laboratory helps students to
- Analyze various parameters of microwave
devices by constructing a microwave bench
- Analyze and verify the characteristics of
Reflex klystron, Gunn diode, Directional
coupler, horn antenna, Circulator and Isolator. - Calculate the numerical aperture, losses in
fibers and analyze the characteristics of
- LED, LASER sources and PIN detector
experimentally
- Construct and demonstrate the analog and
digital modulation & demodulation
- Construct and demonstrate the pulse code
modulation and delta modulation techniques
